The Lyons: complete cast announced
Tony Award winner Dick Latessa (Hairspray), along with Kate Jennings Grant and Brenda Pressley, complete the of Vineyard Theatre's world premiere of Nicky Silver's new play The Lyons, opening at the Vineyard Theatre on 11 Oct 2011, following previews from 21 Sep 2011, and running through to 30 Oct 2011.
They join the previously announced Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin (Broadway Bound), Michael Esper and Gregory Wooddell.
The Lyons - Silver's seventh new play to open at The Vineyard - is about a family grappling with the death of its patriarch. When Ben Lyon's wife, Rita, and their grown children gather to say goodbye, they learn that despite being a family, each of them is utterly isolated. Afraid of closeness and afraid of solitude, Ben's death may be a catalyst that propels them into foreign territory human connection.
Directed by Mark Brokaw, the creative team features sets by Allen Moyer, costumes by Michael Krass, lighting by David Lander, and sound by David Van Tieghem.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on 31 Aug 2011.

Dick Latessa previously appeared at The Vineyard in its revival of Marc Blitzstein's musical 'Juno.' He won a Tony for his performance in the Tony Award-winning musical 'Hairspray.' Other Broadway credits include: 'Cabaret,' 'Proposals,' 'A Funny Thing Happened....,' 'Damn Yankees,' The Will Rogers Follies,' 'Rumors,' 'Broadway Bound,' 'Rags.' Off-Broadway credits include: 'Chaucer in Rome,' 'Over the River and Through the Woods,' 'Fit to be Tied' and 'Sophistry.' His TV and film work includes: "The Substance of Fire," "Alfie," "The Good Wife," and "Six Degrees."
Kate Jennings Grant was last seen on Broadway in the 2009 revival of 'Guys and Dolls.' Her other Broadway credits are 'Proof' and 'An American Daughter.Off-Broadway credits include: 'The Marriage of Bette and Boo,' 'Between Us,' 'The Beard of Avon' and 'Radiant Baby.' Her TV and film work includes: "Body of Proof," "Parenthood," "Royal Pains," "White Collar," "Rescue Me," Diane Sawyer in Ron Howard's "Frost/Nixon," "United 93," and "Kinsey."
Brenda Pressley appeared at The Vineyard in 'You Don't Miss the Water.' Broadway credits: 'The American Plan,' 'Cats,' 'Dreamgirls' and 'The Moony Shapiro Songbook.' Off-Broadway: 'The First Breeze of Summer,' 'Seven Guitars,' 'Fran's Bed,' 'And the World Goes 'Round,' 'One Two Three Four Five' and 'Blues in the Night.' Her TV and film work includes: "Cradle Will Rock," "Twisted," "Body of Proof," and "Brewster Place."
