
'The Heart of Rock and Roll' sets complete Broadway cast
The new romantic comedy musical set to the hit songs of Huey Lewis and the News is set to begin performances at the James Earl Jones Theatre in March.
They're feeling the power of love! Complete casting has been set for The Heart of Rock and Roll ahead of the musical's Broadway premiere this spring. Performances begin March 29 ahead of an April 22 opening at the James Earl Jones Theatre.
The show centers on Bobby, a bandleader-turned-corporate worker, and his boss, Cassandra, who help each other get a second chance at their dreams and find love along the way. Starring as Bobby and Cassandra are Corey Cott and McKenzie Kurtz.
The principal cast also includes Josh Breckenridge, F. Michael Haynie, Zoe Jensen, Tamika Lawrence, Raymond J. Lee, John-Michael Lyles, Orville Mendoza, Billy Harrigan Tighe, and John Dossett.
The ensemble includes Mike Baerga, Tommy Bracco, TyNia René Brandon, Olivia Cece, Taylor Marie Daniel, Lindsay Joan, Ross Lekites, Robin Masella, Kara Menendez, Michael Olaribigbe, Kevin Pariseau, and Robert Pendilla. Joe Moeller, Jennifer Noble, Fredric Rodriguez Odgaard, and Leah Read complete the cast as swings.
The Heart of Rock and Roll is set to the song catalog of Huey Lewis, including the hits “Do You Believe in Love”, “Hip to Be Square,” “If This Is It,” and "The Power of Love." The book is by Jonathan A. Abrams, based on an original story by Tyler Mitchell and Abrams.
The creative team also includes director Gordon Greenberg, choreographer Lorin Latarro, musical director Will Van Dyke, set designer Derek McLane, costume designer Jen Caprio, lighting designer Japhy Weideman, sound designer John Shivers, and hair, wig, and makeup designer Nikiya Mathis. Music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations are by Brian Usifer.
