'The Gray Area' at the Theatre Stdio Inc
Theatre Studio Inc Presents The Gray Area: Five One-Acts examining the darker part of peoples' souls and the desperate and deadly emotions that lie within, at the Theatre Studio Inc from the 4 - 26 Jun 2005.
Every person has certain feelings and emotions they keep bottled up inside. Things such as loneliness, prejudice, want and revenge. Sometimes it's good to open up and share those feelings with someone else. Other times it's best to keep them locked up tight - for once you let them out, they have a life of their own and can consume everything and everyone in their path. The Gray Area, five one-acts written by Erik Christian Hanson, shows just what can happen when these feelings start to emerge.
The five one-acts making up The Gray Area are:
The Worst Holiday on Earth
What can two very different people at a roadside motel find to talk about? Nothing; other than the fact they're both desperately alone, it's raining cats and dogs outside and it's a very empty Valentine's Day. Directed by TSI Artistic Director A.M. Raychel. Running time: 20 minutes.
Suburban Soldier
A man doesn't pay much attention to the two lesbians living next door, but when the women's young son begins to exhibit homosexual tendencies with another child in the area, that's another story. Directed by Jason Grant. Running time: 15 minutes.
Black Studies
A mild-mannered teacher gets a up-close look at racism from the star of the basketball team. Trying to expose the player for the bigot he believes him to be, the instructor is unprepared for his own actions in the matter. Directed by Alanna Maharajh. Running time: 30 minutes.
Snoop
A man follows his wife and her lover and, while talking directly to the audience, reveals his thoughts on the situation and exactly what he intends to do about it. Snoop will be directed by Adam Karsten. Running time: 15 minutes.
Accusation
Two twenty-somethings find their impending wedding nuptials thrown for a loop when the groom-to-be is accused of raping his intended's 16 year-old sister - who's actually obsessively in love with him. Directed by Joni Weisfeld. Running time: 25 minutes.
Total running time for The Gray Area is approximately 1 Hour, 45 Minutes. Common in each of the stories that make up The Gray Area is the theme of people believing in certain absolute truths. However what may be a truth for one person may not be so for another. Such a discrepancy can lead to disappointment, heartbreak, and ultimately, disaster.
