The Good Mother: Mark Blum replaces Bill Sage

The New Group have announced that due to a scheduling conflict Mark Blum will replace Bill Sage in their world premiere of The Good Mother, a new play by Francine Volpe, opening at Theatre Row's Acorn Theater on 15 Nov 2012, following previews from 29 Oct 2012, and playing through to 22 Dec 2012.

Directed by Scott Elliott, the five member cast will now feature Gretchen Mol (Broadway: Chicago) as 'Larissa,' Mark Blum (Broadway: The Best Man) as 'Joel,' Darren Goldstein (Broadway: Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Alfredo Narciso and Eric Nelsen (Broadway:A Streetcar Named Desire - 2005).

The Good Mother: Larissa is a single mother who can barely meet the mortgage on her house in Mount Vernon, NY. When a bizarre incident involving her 4-year-old daughter forces her to face someone from her past, her own questionable actions come back to haunt her.

The creative team featues sets by Derek McLane, costumes by Cynthia Rowley, lighting by Jason Lyons and sound by Bart Fasbender.

Playwright Francine Volpe's credits include 'The Given' (directed by Michael Imperioli at Studio Dante), 'Late Fragment' (Studio Dante), 'Sweethearts' (The New Company) and 'Giftbox' (stageFARM).

Scott Elliott is the founding Artistic Director of The New Group, where he has produced over 50 plays, 24 of which he directed, including last season's world premieres of Erika Sheffer's 'Russian Transport' and Thomas Bradshaw's 'Burning' and also 'The Kid.' He also directed Ayub Khan Din's' East is East' and 'Rafta, Rafta' at The New Group.
