The Caucasian Chalk Circle: Lea DeLaria joins cast

Lea DeLaria plays the role of the 'Governor's Wife' in Classic Stage Company's revival of Bertolt Brecht,'s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, translated by James and Tania Stern, playing at the Classic Stage Company.

DeLaria assumes the role from original cast member Mary Testa, who due to a previously scheduled conflict was unable to stay with the production during its recently announced two week extension.

Lea DeLaria's Broadway credits include 'On the Town' and 'The Rocky Horror Show.' Off-Broadway she has appeared in 'Happy Days' (CSC), 'Little Fish' (Second Stage), 'The Vagina Monologues' (Westside Theatre) and as 'Hildy Esterhazy' in 'Our Town' at the Delacorte Theater for which she was as OBIE Award for Performance. Film work includes "Dear Dumb Diary," "Edge of Seventeen," "The First Wives Club," "Sgt. Bilko," "Rescuing Desire," "Mercury in Retrograde," "Fat Rose & Squeaky" and "Sister Spirit." The revival began previews at the Classic Stage Company on 03 May 2013, where it will open on 30 May 2013. The show, which was originally scheduled to close on 09 Jun 2013, is now playing an extended engagement though to 23 Jun 2013.

The Caucasian Chalk Circle: Grusche, a young servant girl, sacrifices everything to protect a child abandoned in the heat of civil war. When order is restored, Grusche is made to confront the boy's biological mother in a legal contest over who deserves to keep him. Brecht's playful parable calls into question our basic assumptions of right in a world that has gone wrong.

Directed by CSC's Artistic Director Brian Kulick, who last season directed F. Murray Abraham in the company's revival of Brecht's 'Galileo,' The Caucasian Chalk Circle now stars Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), Elizabeth A. Davis (Grusha) and Lea DeLaria (Governor's Wife).

The cast also features Jason Babinsky (Yusek), Alex Hurt (Simon), Tom Riis Farrell (The Corporal/Shuva/Fat Prince) and Deb Radloff (Farmer's Wife/Aniko).

The creative team features set design by Tony Straiges, costumes by Anita Yavich, lighting by Justin Townsend and sound design by Matt Kraus.
