The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial: to close on the 21 May


Herman Wouk's The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial is to close on the 21 May 2006, the play was booking to the 27 Aug 2006.

The drama opened at the Schoenfeld theatre on the 7 May 2006, following previews from the 14 Apr. When the production closes it will have played 17 regular performances and 27 previews.

The play received average to poor notices and has been sluggish at the box office, playing to less then half capacity. The New York Times said of the show "Eye-glazing attempt to resurrect Herman Wouk's 1953 play." and "It's as riveting as a reading of the 2006 tax code." wrote the Journal News.

David Schwimmer, known for his TV work in the NBC series "Friends", makes his Broadway debut in the show, though the critics were unimpressed. Associated Press said "Schwimmer seems out of his element. He appears wooden at times � even for a military man in a court-martial proceeding." and the USA Today wrote "Schwimmer's portrayal has the self-conscious, at times preening quality of a diligent but overeager student. "

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial is a courtroom suspense drama about a naval lieutenant on trial for mutiny in wartime.

The play, directed by Jerry Zaks, features David Schwimmer, Zeljko Ivanek, Tim Daly, Terry Beaver, Murphy Guyer, Joe Sikora, Robert Devaney, Scott Ferrera, Ben Fox, Geoffrey Nauffts, Tom Nelis, Brian Reddy, Paul David Story, Peter Bradbury, Denis Butkus, Tom Gottlieb, Greg McFadden, Michael Quinlan, Brian Russell, Doug Stender.

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial has set design by John Lee Beatty, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Paul Gallo and sound by Daniel Moses Schreier.
