The US premiere of The Asphalt Kiss, by Nelson Rodrigues, plays at 59E59s Theater B from the 7 - 29 Oct 2005
As a pedestrian hit by a bus lies dying on a Rio street, a passerby stops to cradle him in his arms and kisses him on the lips as a parting gesture of human solidarity. But the scene is witnessed by an unscrupulous reporter, who proves so successful in convincing a public hungry for scandal that the men were lovers that even the wife of the Good Samaritan comes to doubt his masculinity.
This production by The Lord Strange Company is a new translation of one of Rodrigues most produced plays and coincides with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the playwright's death.
The Asphalt Kiss' cast, directed by Sarah Cameron Sunde, features: Joe Capozzi, Arlene Chico-Lugo, Paul de Sousa, Jessica Kaye, Paul Klementowicz, James Martinez, Dawn McGee and Charles Turner.
The production has set design by Lauren Helpern and lighting design by Traci Klainer.
