Suzanne Vega to join Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice cast
The world premiere will begin performances at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre within the Pershing Square Signature Center later this month.
Ahead of previews of the world premiere of Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice beginning later this month, The New Group has announced that Suzanne Vega will join the cast as the Band Leader. She will replace the musical's composer and lyricist Duncan Sheik, who was previously slated in the role.
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice will begin previews at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre within the Pershing Square Signature Center on January 16, 2020, ahead of an official opening night on February 4, 2020, with performances currently scheduled through March 15, 2020.
Speaking about Vega joining the cast, Duncan Sheik commented: "It turns out that being in the cast on top of being composer and co-lyricist of a new musical is a lot to chew, so I have decided to focus on the latter. I'm thrilled that my friend and longtime collaborator Suzanne Vega will be stepping into the role."
Commonly known as the 'Mother of the MP3', Suzanne Vega is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, whose theatre credits include an all-Hispanic version of The Sound of Music at the Lincoln Center.
She will star alongside Jennifer Damiano (as Carol), Ana Nogueira (as Alice), Joél Pérez (as Bob), and Michael Zegen (as Ted).
Synopsis: " A bittersweet comic take on the sexual revolution in which the suavely conventional lives of two successful young couples, all friends, are both stirred and shaken when they open their minds to the changing attitudes around them. Duncan Sheik and Jonathan Marc Sherman evoke both the confusions of the time, and the hard timeless lessons of marriage and emotional commitment, inspired by the brilliant and irreverent Oscar-nominated film."
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice features a book by Jonathan Marc Sherman, with music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik. Scott Elliott directs, with choreography by Kelly Devine, scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Jeff Mahshie, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design by Jessica Paz.
