Storefront Church: Atlantic announces cast

Atlantic Theater's world premiere production of Storefront Church, written and directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner John Patrick Shanley, will feature Bob Dishy, Giancarlo Esposito, Zach Grenier, Ron Cephas Jones and Tonya Pinkins.

Storefront Church opens at the Atlantic's Linda Gross Theater on 11 Jun 2012, following previews from 16 May 2012, and closes on 24 Jun 2012.

The story in Storefront Church concerns a Bronx borough President (Esposito) who is forced, by the mortgage crisis into a confrontation with a local minister (Cephas Jones). The question they confront is one that faces us all. What is the relationship between spiritual experience and social action?

The play is the final installment of Shanley's trilogy called 'Church and State,' which began with 'Doubt,' followed by 'Defiance'.

Tony Award nominated stage veteran Bob Dishy has appeared in 17 Broadway productions and most recently starred Off-Broadway in 'Knickerbocker' and 'Enter Laughing.' Atlantic Theater Company member Giancarlo Esposito returns to the New York stage following starring on Broadway in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.' Zach Grenier returns to Atlantic following his appearance in 'Gabriel.' He appeared on Broadway last season in 'Man and Boy' and received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in '33 Variations.' Ron Cephas Jones is currently appearing Off-Broadway in Katori Hall's play 'Hurt Village.' Tonya Pinkins received Tony and Olivier award nominations for her starring title role performance in the musical 'Caroline, or Change.' She is currently starring Off-Broadway in Katori Hall's play 'Hurt Village.'

The design team for Storefront Church features scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by Matthew Richards and sound design by Bart Fasbender.
