'Spring Awakening' sets Off-Broadway cast

Tony Award winner Danya Taymor directs the newest revival of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's celebrated coming-of-age musical at Studio Seaview for 12 weeks only.

Complete principal casting has been announced for this fall's revival of Spring Awakening off Broadway, playing at Studio Seaview for 12 weeks only starting November 27. Opening night is December 17.

The Spring Awakening cast includes Jack Bateman as Georg, Jada Simone Clark as Thea, Leif Coomer as Ernst, Ryo Kamibayashi as Moritz, Ashlyn Maddox as Wendla, Nando Morland as Otto, Antonio Porciello as Hanschen, Khadija Sankoh as Martha, Grace Slear as Anna, Tyler Jordan Wesley as Melchior, and Amalia Yoo as Ilse. Bateman and Porciello were among the cast members selected from over 2,500 performers who auditioned through the production’s open casting call in July.

As previously announced, Tony Award Danya Taymor (The Outsiders, John Proctor Is the Villain) directs, with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall and music supervision by Or Matias. New additions to the creative team include set designers Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, costume designer Kaye Voyce, lighting designer Brian MacDevitt, sound designer Cody Spencer, special effects designer Jeremy Chernick, music director and conductor Cynthia Meng, music coordinator David Lai, intimacy coordinator Ann James, fight coordinator Drew Leary, creative consultant C.A. Johnson, associate director Miranda Cornell, voice and text coach Gigi Buffington, and production stage manager Elizabeth Allen.

Spring Awakening is a coming-of-age musical about German teens who, without guidance from their parents about navigating their budding desires and fears, attempt to figure it out themselves — but not without consequences. The musical by Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music), adapted from Frank Wedekind's 1891 play, won eight Tony Awards in 2007, including Best Musical.
