'Six' becomes longest-running show at the Lena Horne Theatre
The two-time Tony Award-winning pop musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, about the wives of Henry VIII, has performed at the Broadway venue since 2020.
It's making her-story! Tonight, June 27, Six becomes the longest-running show to ever play at the Lena Horne Theatre with its 1,545th performance.
The record was previously held by Waitress, which played 1,544 performances at the venue between 2016 and 2020.
Built in 1926, the Lena Horne Theatre was previously known as the Mansfield Theatre (after actor Richard Mansfield) and Brooks Atkinson Theatre (after the New York Times dance critic). When it got its current name in 2022, it became the first Broadway theatre to be named for a Black woman.
Its current tenant similarly celebrates women's history. Created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as a contemporary girl group competing to see whose marriage was the worst. By way of Tony Award-winning original pop songs, they tell their own stories — about their lives, not just their deaths — on their own terms.
