Wed 24 March 2004 Shirley Jones and Patrick Cassidy are to star in 42nd Street from 7 May - 1 Aug 2004 For the first time in Broadway history, a mother and son will star together in a Broadway musical. Shirley Jones and her son Patrick Cassidy will co- star in the Broadway musical, 42nd Street for three months beginning 7 May and ending 1 August 2004. Shirley Jones will play the diva Dorothy Brock and Patrick Cassidy will be her tyrannical director Julian Marsh. Shirley Jones, star of screen, stage and television, returns to Broadway for the first time in nearly 40 years when she appeared with her husband Jack Cassidy in "Maggie Flynn" in 1968. She made her Broadway debut in 1953 in "South Pacific". Patrick Cassidy most recently appeared on Broadway in "Aida" (as well as the national tour for which he won the 2002 National Broadway Theatre Award for Best Actor in a Touring Musical), "Annie Get Your Gun", "Pirates of Penzance" and "Leader of the Pack". The show, which closes on Broadway on 2 Jan 2005, has music by Harry Warren, Lyrics by Al Dubin, Book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble,and is directed by Mark Bramble, Choreography by Randy Skinner. Set design by Douglas W. Schmidt, with costumes by Roger Kirk, and lighting by Paul Gallo. 42nd Street is musical adaptation of a 1933 film classic about Peggy Sawyer, A chorus girl who ends up becoming a star.
