Neil Simon's play officially opened on March 28.
The stars have checked into the Plaza! The Broadway revival of Plaza Suite, starring Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, had its official opening at the Hudson Theatre last night. In a four-star review of Plaza Suite, our critic said, "This 54-year-old comedy may be no spring chicken, but it's good enough to be one of Broadway's biggest events of the season."
Neil Simon's farce is a trio of one-act plays set in Suite 719 of New York's famed Plaza Hotel. Real-life spouses Broderick and Parker play a different couple in each: a long-married, loveless pair returning to their honeymoon suite; a Hollywood producer reuniting with his high school girlfriend after 17 years; and frantic parents of a bride who's gotten cold feet on her wedding day. "The show packs moments that are gleefully LOL, is deeper than you might expect, and the real-life married stars co-piloting this vintage vehicle are in fine form," our review also reads.
Sex and the City star Parker and two-time Tony Award winner Broderick were meant to lead the show on Broadway in 2020, but their stay was postponed by two years. Performances finally began on February 25, 2022, with plenty of audiences eager to see the couple share a Broadway stage for the first time in 25 years.
