School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play extends at Lucille Lortel Theatre
The MCC Theater return engagement of School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play will now play its final performance on December 9, 2018.
MCC Theater has announced a 2-week extension for its current return engagement of Jocelyn Bioh's hit comedy School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, directed by Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman, which returned to the Lucille Lortel Theatre on October 16, 2018, officially opened on October 22 and will now run through to December 9, 2018 (instead of November 25).
Synopsis: "Paulina, the reigning Queen Bee at Ghana's most exclusive boarding school, has her sights set on the Miss Universe pageant. But the mid-year arrival of Ericka, a new student with undeniable talent and beauty, captures the attention of the pageant recruiter - and Paulina's hive-minded friends. This buoyant and biting comedy explores the universal similarities (and glaring differences) facing teenage girls across the globe."
The cast includes (in alphabetical order) MaameYaa Boafo (as Paulina Sarpong), Latoya Edwards (as Ama), Paige Gilbert (as Gifty), Zainab Jah (as Eloise Amponsah), Joanna A. Jones (as Ericka), Abena Mensah-Bonsu (as Nana), Mirirai Sithole (as Mercy), and Myra Lucretia Taylor (as Headmistress Francis).
The creative team behind School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play includes scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, and dialect coaching by Deborah Hecht.

The original world premiere of School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play played a twice-extended run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre from November 2 through to December 31, 2017, and won the Lucille Lortel Award for "Outstanding Play", whilst the ensemble cast also received a special Drama Desk Award. The play celebrated its Los Angeles premiere at the Kirk Douglas Theatre from September 2 to 30, 2018.
