‘Romeo + Juliet,’ starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, names complete cast
The latest Broadway revival of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy also features original music by Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Jack Antonoff.
A cast by any other name would be as sweet! Romeo + Juliet on Broadway has named its complete cast, joining the previously announced Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler in the title roles. Performances begin September 26 ahead of an October 24 opening at the Circle in the Square Theatre.
Newly announced members of the Romeo + Juliet cast include Tony Award nominee Gabby Beans as Mercutio/Friar Lawrence, Tommy Dorfman as Nurse/Tybalt, Nihar Duvvuri as Balthazar, Sola Fadiran as Capulet/Lady Capulet, Daniel Bravo Hernández as Abraham, Taheen Modak as Benvolio, Jasai Chase Owens as Gregory, and Gían Pérez as Samson/Paris/Peter.
Missy Malek, Timothy Oh, Susannah Perkins, and Daniel Velez are understudies.
As previously announced, Tony winner Sam Gold (Fun Home) directs the production, with movement by Tony winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) and original music by 11-time Grammy-winning musician and music producer Jack Antonoff.
Romeo + Juliet will also feature scenic design by dots; costume design by Enver Chakartash; lighting design by Isabella Byrd; sound design by Cody Spencer; wig, makeup, and hair design by Robert Pickens and Katie Gell; violence by Drew Leary, intimacy direction by Claire Warden, voice and text coaching by Gigi Buffington, and text consultation by Michael Sexton and Ayanna Thompson.
“The youth are fucked,” reads the synopsis of this production of Shakespeare’s tragedy. In Romeo + Juliet, a pair of star-crossed young lovers give in to passion amid the violent world of their feuding families, but their fate follows close behind.
