Redwood on Broadway, starring Idina Menzel, has announced closing. The musical will play its final performance at the Nederlander Theatre on May 18. At the time of closing, it will have played 127 total performances.

Tony Award winner Menzel (Wicked, Rent, Frozen) stars as Jesse, a woman who experiences an earth-shattering loss and leaves her life behind. Finding herself across the country in the California redwood forests, Jesse meets two environmentalists researching the redwoods, and they open her up to nature, community, and healing.

“While we had of course hoped for a longer run, we're incredibly grateful to have been able to tell this beautiful story for the time we've been given," producers Eva Price and Caroline Kaplan said in a statement. “Redwood has been a labor of love since the very beginning of this process, and we are immensely proud of the incredible work our cast, crew, and creative team have wholeheartedly poured into this production. The themes of connection and community have really resonated with audiences, and we’ll take that with us long after the show closes on Broadway.”

The show marks Menzel’s first time on Broadway in 10 years as well as her Broadway debut as a writer. She co-conceived and co-wrote the script with director Tina Landau, and Kate Diaz makes her Broadway debut as Redwood’s composer and lyricist.

The current cast of Redwood, alongside Menzel, includes De’Adre Aziza as Mel, Michael Park as Finn, Zachary Noah Piser as Spencer, and Khaila Wilcoxon as Becca. All but Wilcoxon also performed in Redwood's world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse in California in 2024.
