Playwrights Horizons announces cast of The Treasurer
Playwrights Horizons has announced complete casting for the upcoming world premiere of Max Posner's dark comedy The Treasurer, directed by three-time Lucille Lortel Award winner David Cromer, which will begin previews at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater on September 6, 2017, before an official opening on September 26 and a limited engagement through to October 22, 2017.
The cast includes Tony Award winner and Olivier Award nominee Deanna Dunagan (as Ida), Tony nominee and Obie Award winner Peter Friedman (as The Son), Marinda Anderson (The Women), and Pun Bandhu (The Men).
Synopsis: "Ida Armstrong is broke, lonely and fading fast. And she's spending all of her children's money, forcing her son to assume the unwanted role of The Treasurer: an arrangement that becomes untenable the more he questions his devotion to her. In this darkly funny, sharply intimate portrait, Max Posner chronicles the strained ties between a son and his aging mother, and the hell of a guilty conscience."
The creative team behind The Treasurer features scenic design by Laura Jellinek, costume design by David Hyman, lighting design by Tony winner Bradley King, sound design by Mikhail Fiksel and projection design by Lucy Mackinnon.
Deanna Dunagan won a Tony Award in 2008 in the category of "Best Actress in a Play" for her Broadway debut as Violet Weston in 'August: Osage County.'
Peter Friedman earned his Tony nomination in 1998 in the category of "Best Actor in a Musical" for his performance as Tateh in 'Ragtime.' Other Broadway credits include 'Twelve Angry Men,' 'The Tenth Man,' 'The Heidi Chronicles,' 'Execution of Justice,' 'Piaf,' 'The Rules of the Game,' 'Love for Love,' 'Holiday,' 'Chemin de Fer,' 'The Visit,' 'Don Juan,' and 'The Great God Brown.'
