Manhattan Theatre Club presents Our Leading Lady, by Charles Busch, at NY City Center's Stage II, opening on 20 Mar 2007, following previews from 22 Feb, and running through to 22 Apr 2007.
Our Leading Lady: Laura Keane, a 19th century American stage luminary, prepares to perform at Ford's Theatre on the fateful night when Abraham Lincoln is in the audience.
Directed by Lynne Meadow, Our Leading Lady features Reed Birney (Gavin DeChamblay), Barbara Bryne (Maude Bentley), Maxwell Caulfield (Harry Hawk), Ann Duquesnay (Madame Wu-Chan), J.R. Horne (Major Hopwood), Kate Mulgrew (Laura Keene), Kristine Nielsen (Verbena Morris), Amy Rutberg (Clementine Smith) and Billy Wheelan (W.J. Ferguson).
The Manhattan Theatre Club presented Charles Busch's comedy, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, off-Broadway in 2000. Due to the show's success it later transferred to Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre where it ran for 777 performances, it too was directed Lynne Meadow. The production won Mr. Busch the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award and received a Tony nomination for Best Play.
Set design by Santo Loquasto, with costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting by Brian MacDevitt and sound by Scott Lehrer.
