Other Desert Cities is now playing an open run
The Lincoln Center Theater (LCT) has announced that their critically acclaimed Broadway transfer of Jon Robin Baitz's new play, Other Desert Cities, directed by Joe Mantello, will now play an open run. The show is currently selling tickets through to 25 Mar 2011.
Other Desert Cities opened at the Booth Theatre on 3 Nov 2011, following previews from 12 Oct 2011, and was originally scheduled to close on 8 Jan 2012.
The show opened to excellent reviews: Fine work in every way! (newyorktheatreguide); Witty, deeply enjoyable family drama (NY Times); One of the best new plays of the decade (NY1); Richly satisfying (Hollywood Reporter).
The production sees Rachel Griffiths ("Six Feet Under," "Brothers & Sisters") make her Broadway debut, starring alongside Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach and Thomas Sadoski who reprise their roles for Broadway, along with new comers Stacy Keach and Judith Light.
In Other Desert Cities, Brooke Wyeth (Rachel Griffiths), a once promising novelist, returns home after a six year absence to celebrate Christmas in Palm Springs with her parents, former members of the Reagan inner-circle (Stockard Channing and Stacy Keach), her brother (Thomas Sadoski) and her aunt (Judith Light). When Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family's history, the holiday reunion is thrown into turmoil and the Wyeths are both bound together and torn apart as they struggle to come to terms with their past.
The Broadway production of Other Desert Cities reunites Lincoln Center Theater's original design team: John Lee Beatty (sets), David Zinn (costumes), Kenneth Posner (lighting), Jill BC DuBoff (sound) and Justin Ellington (original music).
LCT premiered Other Desert Cities at the Off-Broadway Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, where it played from 16 Dec 2010 - 27 Feb 2011. That production starred Elizabeth Marvel as 'Brooke Wyeth.'
