Nice Work If You Can Get It: Kelli O’Hara to star opposite Matthew Broderick

Three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara ('South Pacific,' 'The Pajama Game' and 'The Light in the Piazza') will star, opposite the previously announced two-time Tony Award-winner Matthew Broderick, in the new musical comedy Nice Work If You Can Get It.

Directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall, Nice Work If You Can Get It will open on Broadway in Apr 2012 at a theatre to be announced.

O'Hara as previously worked with Kathleen Marshall in the Roundabout's revival of 'The Pajama Game,' which won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, and earned O'Hara her second Tony nomination. She also recently worked with Marshall on last season's Encores! production of 'Bells Are Ringing.'

With a book by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe DiPietro (last season's Tony Award-winning 'Memphis,' for which he won Tony awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score), Nice Work If You Can Get It will feature songs from the Gershwin catalog, and specifically borrows from their 1926 musical "Oh Kay."

Kathleen Marshall said, "I am over the moon to get to work with the brilliant Kelli O'Hara again. Kelli and Matthew starring together in a romantic screwball comedy and singing Gershwin songs is going to be a total blast!"

Additional casting, venue and creative team will be announced shortly.

The press notes decribes the musical as a "Screwball romantic comedy takes place in the 1920s and centers around a wealthy playboy who gets mixed up with a hilarious trio of bootleggers."

A Broadway outing for the musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It, has been rumored for sometime. A workshop took place in Nov 2007 featuring Henry Connick jr and Erin Dilly, at that time the show was titled 'Heaven on Earth.'

Following the workshop the musical was expected to arrive on Broadway in the Spring of 2009, following a pre-Broadway try out at the Colonial Theatre in Boston from 16 Dec 2008 - 11 Jan 2009, starring Henry Connick jr. However, according to Broadway Across America - the then leading producer - the production team disbanded due to "irreconcilable differences," and in June 2008 it was announced the musical was officially postponed.

In Jun 2010 Harry Connick Jr said he was no longer involved in any future planned production of the show after a personal feud with director Kathleen Marshall. Connick, Jr., and Marshall had previously worked together on the 2006 Broadway revival of "The Pajama Game."
