Today the Society of London Theatre announced the nominations for The Olivier Awards 2019 and a host of familiar names to New York audiences received those all-important nods on the other side of the pond. The nominees were announced by 2018 Olivier Award winners Sheila Atim (who won for her performance in Girl From the North Country, recently seen off-Broadwat at the Public Theater) and Giles Terera (an Olivier winner for his turn as Aaron Burr in the West End premiere of Hamilton) via Facebook.

Leading the pack are the West End revival of the Stephen Sondheim/George Furth musical Company and the West End premiere of Come From Away with a grand total of nine nominations each, whilst the most nominated play at this year's ceremony is The Inheritance with eight nominations.

Notable nominees this year include 2-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone in the category of "Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical" for her performance as Joanne in Company, who finds herself in the same category as Broadway alum Rachel Tucker for her performance in Come From Away and Ruthie Ann Miles, who reprised her Tony-winning performance as Lady Thiang in the West End transfer of the Lincoln Center Theater production of The King and I.

Speaking of The King and I, congratulations also go to Kelli O'Hara (who can currently be seen starring on Broadway in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Kiss Me, Kate!) for also reprising her Tony-winning performance as Anna Leonowens in London, and Ken Watanabe, who earned a Tony Award nomination in 2015 for his efforts as The King of Siam and now adds an Olivier Award nomination to his list of accolades.

The world premiere of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, headed to the Great White Way this coming fall, found itself nominated in the category of "Best New Musical," whilst Tony Award nominee Adrienne Warren also earned a well-deserved nod in the category of "Best Actress in a Musical" for her efforts in the title role. Ms. Warren is also scheduled to reprise her performance on Broadway. Also nominated in the category of "Best New Musical" was the 2015 Tony Award-winning "Best Musical" Fun Home for its London premiere at the Young Vic

Dame Eileen Atkins, a 4-time Tony Award nominee in her own right, was nominated in the category of "Best Actress" for her performance in The Height of the Storm, which she will also reprise on Broadway this coming September, thanks to Manhattan Theatre Club.

Other notable New York stage alumni receiving nods today include a couple of stage legends with Sir Ian McKellen ("Best Actor" for King Lear) and Vanessa Redgrave ("Best Actress in a Supporting Role" for The Inheritance), alongside Tony Award winner Sophie Okonedo ("Best Actress" for Antony And Cleopatra), recent Tony-nominated star of Angels in AmericaSusan Brown ("Best Actress in a Supporting Role" for Home, I'm Darling), and "The X-Files" star Gillian Anderson ("Best Actress" for Ivo van Hove's All About Eve).

The New York Theatre Guide would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of today's nominees for London's biggest night of the theatrical calendar!
