'Never Swim Alone' & 'This Is A Play', a double bill at Theatre 54

The Bridge Theatre Company presents a double bill: 'Never Swim Alone' & 'This Is A Play', both by Daniel MacIvor, opening at Theatre 54 on the 17 May 2005, following previews frrom the 12 May. The show is scheduled to close on the 22 May 2005.

In Never Swim Alone two lifelong male friends are on a beach taking part in a series of masculinity contests refereed by a beautiful young woman in a bathing suit. As the competition intensifies in brutality and the two men bloody each other both physically and verbally, the woman takes them closer and closer to finally confronting a long-hidden tragedy thats haunted them throughout their adult lives.

In the comedy This Is A Play three actors are performing in a dreadfully written stage drama. But rather than the dialogue from the play, we hear the actors innermost thoughts about such subjects as the lame script theyve been given, their less-than-adaquate fellow thespians and the general horrors of a life in the theatre.

The cast, directed by Jason Frasier, features Amos Crawley, Duston Olson, Jennifer Laine Williams, Esther Barlowe, Lori Lane Jefferson and Robin Mervin

Daniel MacIvor is a Canadian-based playwright, director and performer whose plays include 'Monster', 'See Bob Run', 'Wild Abandon', '2-2 Tango', 'The Soldier Dreams', 'Marion Bridge', 'You Are Here', 'House', and 'In On It', for which he received an Obie Award in 2001.
