Murder Ballad extends by 12 weeks



Manhattan Theatre Club's production of the musical Murder Ballad, which has been nominated for Best Musical by the Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, and Lortel Awards, has just announced a twelve week extension, and will now play through to 29 Sep 2013.

The new musical, that recently played an extended engagement at Manhattan Theatre Club's The Studio at Stage II, began previews at the Union Square Theatre on 07 May 2013, where it opens on 22 May 2013. The show was originally scheduled to play a strictly limited nine week engagement at the Union Square Theatre through to 07 Jul 2013.

A love triangle gone wrong, Murder Ballad centers on Sara, an Upper West Sider who seems to have it all, but whose downtown past lingers enticingly and dangerously in front of her. This sexy, explosive new musical explores the complications of love, the compromises we make, and the betrayals that can ultimately undo us.

Directed by Trip Cullman, and choreographed by Doug Varone, Murder Ballad features John Ellison Conlee (Michael), Rebecca Naomi Jones (Narrator), Caissie Levy (Sara), Will Swenson (Tom).

The musical was recently nominated for five Lucille Lortel nominations, including Best Musical, making it the most nominated musical of the season.

Murder Ballad is conceived by Jonathan Larson Award winner and two-time Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist Julia Jordan with book and lyrics by Jordan and music and lyrics by indie rock singer/songwriter Juliana Nash.

The creative team for Murder Ballad includes: Mark Wendland (scenic design), Jessica Pabst (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design) and Leon Rothenberg (sound design).

The musical is is being produced at the Union Square Theatre by Manhattan Theatre Club Productions, Inc., Niclas Nagler, Richard Frankel, Tom Viertel, Steven Baruch, Marc Routh, Simone Genatt Haft, Scott M. Delman and Susanne Adamski.
