MTC 2012/13 season: 2 further works announced

Two additional productions have been announced for Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming 2012-2013 theatrical season.

 

 

The Broadway season at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre will include the Broadway premiere of The Other Place by Sharr White, directed by Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, and starring three-time Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf.

The Off-Broadway season at New York City Center - Stage I will include the world premiere of The Explorers Club, the new comedy by Tony Award nominee Nell Benjamin.

The Other Place joins MTC's previously announced Broadway production of Rebecca Lenkiewicz's new version of An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, and starring four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines and Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas. MTC will announce a third Broadway production for the Friedman Theatre in the coming weeks.

The Explorers Club joins MTC's Off-Broadway season which will also include the New York premiere of Golden Age, the new play by four-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally, directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and the world premiere of The Madrid, the new play by Liz Flahive, directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman starring four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Edie Falco.

Synopsis: When Dr. Thomas Stockmann (Boyd Gaines) discovers toxic contamination in the water used at the local baths, he expects to be hailed as a hero. But since the baths are the town's main source of revenue, the community fights to silence him... and Dr. Stockmann learns that there are forces more powerful than truth.

The Other Place had its world premiere at MCC Theater, opening 28 Mar 2011 where it extended due to popular demand. The show was nominated for three Lucille Lortel Awards. Laurie Metcalf won an Obie Award and a Lucille Lortel Award for her performance as 'Juliana Smithton' in the production.
