Mrs Warren's Profession plays final performance
The Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway revival of George Bernard Shaw's Mrs Warren's Profession plays its final performance on 28 Nov 2010. When the show closes it will have played 35 previews and 65 regular performances.
Mrs Warren's Profession opened at the American Airlines Theatre on 3 Oct 2010, following previews from 3 Sep, for a limited engagement that was originally scheduled to end on 21 Nov 2010.
The show opened to mostly poor reviews: Generally less-than-delightful (NY Times); A production whose edges have all been dulled (NY Post); Workmanlike production is nothing to write home about (Variety).
The comedy, directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes ('Doubt'), stars Tony Award winner Cherry Jones ('Doubt' & 'The Heiress') as 'Kitty Warren' and saw Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins make her Broadway debut as 'Vivie Warren.'
The show also features Adam Driver (Frank Gardner), Mark Harelik (Sir George Crofts), Edward Hibbert (Mr. Praed) and Michael Siberry (Reverend Samuel Gardner).
Mrs Warren's Profession: Tells the story of Kitty Warren, a mother who makes a terrible sacrifice for her daughter Vivie's independence. The clash of these two strong-willed but culturally constrained women is the spark that ignites the ironic wit of what many believe to be one of Shaw's greatest plays.
The design team includes Scott Pask (Sets), Catherine Zuber (Costumes), Kenneth Posner (Lights) and David Van Tieghem (Sound).
Mrs Warren's Profession premiered on Broadway in 1905 at the Garrick Theatre and subsequently was revived on Broadway in 1907, 1918, 1922 and 1976.
