'Movin' Out' is to close on the 11 Dec 2005.


The producers of the Broadway musical Movin' Out, conceived, choreographed and directed by Twyla Tharp and based on 24 classic songs by Billy Joel, announced that the musical will play its final performance on the 11 Dec 2005, after 28 previews and 1,303 regular performances.

Movin' Out recently joined the pantheon of great Broadway dance musicals when it surpassed the runs of CONTACT (1010 performances), FOSSE (1093 performances) and BRING IN 'DA NOISE/BRING IN 'DA FUNK (1135 performances).

Currently in its third year on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, Movin' Out opened on the 24 Oct 2002, following previews from the 30 Sep 2002. The national tour of the musical continues its run across the country.

Movin' Out is presented by James L. Nederlander, Hal Luftig, Scott E. Nederlander, Terry Allen Kramer, Clear Channel Entertainment and Emanuel Azenberg.

Movin' Out tells the story of six friends as they go through Vietnam in the 1960's and the 1970's Drug Scene.

When Movin' Out opened, Ben Brantley of The New York Times called it "A shimmering portrait of an American generation." Linda Winer of Newsday said that Movin' Out is "A true heart original that will haunt you with the power of moving theater." John Heilpern of The New York Observer called the show "The most exhilarating show in town."

Movin' Out currently stars its original Tony Award nominees John Selya, Elizabeth Parkinson, Keith Roberts, Ashley Tuttle, Tony Award winner Scott Wise, Benjamin G. Bowman, and Tony nominee Michael Cavanaugh.

The cast of also includes Michael Balderrama, Timothy W. Bish, Christopher Body, Alexander Brady, Ian Carney, Ron DeJesus, Carolyn Doherty, Melissa Downey, Pascale Faye, Kurt Froman, Philip Gardner, Charlie Hodges, Lorin Latarro, Marty Lawson, Brian Letendre, Tiger Martina, Mabel Modrono, Jill Nicklaus, Rika Okamoto, Eric Otto, Meg Paul, Justin Peck, Karine Plantadit-Bageot, Lawrence Rabson, Ron Todorowski and Jessica Walker (dancers); and Wade Preston, Henry Haid, Tommy Byrnes, Kevin Osborne, Dennis Delgaudio, Greg Smith, Chuck B�rgi, John Scarpulla, Scott Kreitzer and Barry Danielian (band).

Movin' Out received two 2003 Tony Awards - one for Ms. Tharp (Best Choreography) and one for Mr. Joel (Best Orchestrations - with Stuart Malina). MOVIN' OUT received a total of ten 2003 Tony Award nominations (other nominations included Best Musical, Best Director, Best Lighting Design, Best Actor in a Musical for John Selya, Best Actress in a Musical for Elizabeth Parkinson, Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Keith Roberts, Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Ashley Tuttle, and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Michael Cavanaugh).

Movin' Out also received the 2003 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Choreography (Twyla Tharp). Ms. Tharp received the 2003 Drama League Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theatre. The musical also swept the 2003 TDF/Astaire Awards by winning all three awards for the first time ever - Best Choreography (Twyla Tharp), Best Male Dancer (John Selya), and Best Female Dancer (Elizabeth Parkinson). John Selya also received the 2003 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut.

Movin' Out has set design by Santo Loquasto, lighting by Donald Holderand costumes by Suzy Benzinger.
