Mint Theater Present Rare Revival of The Fatal Weakness
The Mint Theater company will present a rare revival of George Kelly's play The Fatal Weakness for a limited engagement, opening on 15 September 2014 through 12 October 2014, following previews from 19 August at the off-Broadway Mint Theater.
The play tells the story of Ollie Espenshade, who, after 28 years of marriage is still an incurable romantic. Perhaps discovering that her husband is a lying cheat will cure her? George Kelly's last produced play is a comedy about romance, marriage and commitment. The original production opened on Broadway in 1946, and was described by critics as Kelly's best works. It was honoured with the title 'Best New Comedy' in the Theatre Book of the Year Awards, 1946-7.
The Fatal Weakness will star Cliff Bemis, Cynthia Darlow, Kristin Griffith, Sean Patrick Hopkins, Patricia Kilgarriff, and Victoria Mack.
The revival will be directed by Jesse Marchese, and will feature scenic design by Vicki R. Davis, costume design by Andrea Varga, lighting design by Christian DeAngelis, original music & sound design by Jane Shaw, and properties design by Joshua Yocom.
The Mint Theater specialises in producing revivals of unknown and forgotten plays. It was awarded an OBIE for "combining the excitement of discovery with the richness of tradition," and a special Drama Desk Award for "unearthing, presenting and preserving forgotten plays of merit." Ben Brantley, in The New York Times Arts & Leisure hailed the Mint as the "resurrectionist extraordinaire of forgotten plays."
