Signature Theatre will open a new theatrical installation next month, welcoming audiences back to Pershing Square Signature Center. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage and acclaimed curator Miranda Haymon have worked together on The Watering Hole with many multidisciplinary artists, and is available to visit from June 22 - August 8.

The exhibit is made up of ten separate installations, flowing together to create a cohesive whole. As stated in press material, The Watering Hole is "an expansive reimaging of theatrical space... The Watering Hole re-illuminates the space—and reimagines how the building can serve artists and communities—after the pandemic's shuttering of theatres and a year of uprisings for racial justice."

Speaking about the project, Nottage said: "The goal was to create a collaborative piece of theatre that disrupts the notion of how and where and why storytelling can happen, that invites theatre artists of color to bring the entirety of our imaginations into conversation with each other and see the ways in which we can tell our stories outside the frameworks that are generally imposed upon us."

Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning plays include Sweat (2017) and Ruined (2009). She is joined by Miranda Haymon, Christina Anderson, Matt Barbot, Montana Levi Blanco, Stefania Bulbarella, Amith Chandrashaker, nicHi douglas, Iyvon E, Justin Ellington, Emmie Finckel, Vanessa German, Ryan J. Haddad, Phillip Howze, Riccardo Hernández, Haruna Lee; Campbell Silverstein, Charly Evon Simpson and Rhiana Yazzie.
