Love, Loss, and What I Wore to close on 25 Mar 2012

The comedy Love, Loss, And What I Wore, an intimate collection of stories by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, and directed by Karen Carpenter, will close on 25 Mar 2012 after playing for two and a half years and 1,013 performances. The show will celebrate its 1000th performance on 15 Mar 2012.

Love, Loss, And What I Wore opened at the Westside Theatre on 1 Oct 2009, following previews from 21 Sep, for what was originally announced to be a twelve week engagement that was to end on 13 Dec 2009. The comedy recouped its entire investment in just eleven weeks.

Producer Daryl Roth said, "Being able to share the intimate collection of stories in Love, Loss, And What I Wore with audiences all over the world, and see it find its place in the cultural landscape, has been incredibly fulfilling. I am very proud of how many women this production has touched - both on stage and off. We have had 32 rotating casts, and 120 actresses have participated during our New York run. The emotional resonance and personal connection people have to this show has been overwhelming."

Love, Loss, And What I Wore is a collection of vignettes and monologues based on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman, as well as on the recollections of the Ephrons' friends. "'The Vagina Monologues' without the vaginas," is how the Ephrons describe this theatrical event.

The show opened to mostly good reviews: A kin to a warm estrogen bath (NY Times); By turns funny, poignant, and occasionally rueful (AP); A bittersweet meditation on the joys and tribulations of women's lives (Variety).

Since opening Off-Broadway the show has played on six continents, in places including: Cape Town, South Africa; The Philippines; Paris, France; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sydney, Australia; Toronto, Canada and many more. Los Angeles' Geffen Theatre and Chicago's Broadway Playhouse both hosted extended runs, and the show is currently in Detroit, MI (through 4 Mar 2012) as part of the national tour.

The cast currently features Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Alexandra Silber, Robin Strasser, Zuzanna Szadkowski, Dawn Wells.

The show's final cast, which begin performances from 29 Feb 2012, will star Sierra Boggess and Erica Watson, with three remaining cast members still to be announced.

The original cast featured Samantha Bee, Tyne Daly, Katie Finneran, Natasha Lyonne and Rosie O'Donnell.

The creative team features sets by Jo Winiarski, costumes by Jessica Jahn, lighting by Jeff Croiter and sound by Walter Trarbach.

A portion of the production's proceeds will benefit Dress for Success, a charity that provides work clothing and job support for low-income women. Audience members will be invited to donate their gently-used purses and other accessories in the theatre lobby.
