'Lempicka' sets Broadway closing date
The musical about the life of painter Tamara de Lempicka, starring 2024 Tony Award nominees Eden Espinosa and Amber Iman, is playing at the Longacre Theatre.
Lempicka on Broadway has set its closing date. The musical at the Longacre Theatre will play its final performance on May 19.
The show is based on the life and career of bisexual Polish Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka. It centers on how she forged a path in a male-dominated art world in Paris and struggled with her loves for two people: her husband Tadeusz and, at the same time, her muse, Rafaela.
“We are so proud of our production and the family of artists and artisans who’ve shaped it," Lempicka's producers said in a statement. "Few knew better than Tamara de Lempicka that art isn’t easy but always worth the effort.”
Eden Espinosa and Amber Iman, who respectively star as Lempicka and Rafaela, are nominated for 2024 Tony Awards. The cast also includes Andrew Samonsky as Tadeusz Lempicki, George Abud as Marinetti, Natalie Joy Johnson as Suzy Solidor, Zoe Glick as Kizette, Nathaniel Stampley as the Baron, and Beth Leavel as the Baroness.
New York Theatre Guide's Lempicka review reads, "Superb lighting design by Bradley King, an eclectic and electric score, and captivating performances are the pulsating flesh and blood that ultimately render Lempicka’s flaws like stray paint specks on canvas: keeping the work from “perfection,” maybe, but not ruining it. Ultimately, Lempicka is ravishing — and one of the best new musicals this season."
