King Charles III transfers to Broadway from 10 Oct 2015
It has now been officially confirmed that the newly-crowned Olivier Award-winning Best New Play King Charles III, written by Mike Bartlett and directed by Rupert Goold, will be transferring to the Great White Way. Previews begin at the Music Box Theatre on 10 October 2015, before an official opening on 1 November 2015.
Tim Piggott-Smith will be reprising his Olivier-nominated leading role performance as King Charles III on the Broadway stage.
The Broadway production of King Charles III is produced by Stuart Thompson and Sonia Friedman. Complete casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.
Synopsis: "In this brand new 'future history play', the Queen is dead, and after a lifetime of waiting, the prince ascends the throne. A future of power. But how to rule? This controversial piece of new writing looks at the modern state of the monarchy and the unwritten rules of democracy. Mike Bartlett examines the people underneath the crown and looks into the consciousness of Britain's most famous family."
Members of the Royal Family, including Prince Charles, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, and even Princess Diana are all depicted during the show, along with a fictional Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
The West End production opened to excellent reviews at the Wyndham's Theatre in London on 11 September 2014, following previews from 2 September, and is booking through to 31 January 2015. The show transferred to the West End, after a successful off-West End try out at the Almeida Theatre in Spring 2014.
Other West End cast members included Oliver Chris, Richard Goulding, Nyasha Hatendi, Adam James, Margot Leicester, Tom Robertson, Nicholas Rowe, Tafline Steen, Lydia Wilson, Katie Brayben and Miles Richardson.
