'Karla' at The Culture Project's 45 Below Theatre


The Culture Project presents Karla, a new play written by Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, Steve Earle, opening at The Culture Project's 45 Below Theatre on the 23 Oct 2005, following previews from the 20 Oct and running through to the 13 Nov 2005.

Karla is the story of Karla Faye Tucker, who was sentenced to death and executed in 1998 for a double homicide, making her the first woman in Texas to receive that sentence and have it carried out since the Civil War. The play concerns the events in her life leading up to the murder and her conversion to Christianity while serving time on Death Row.

Karla's cast, directed by Bruce Kronenberg, features: Jodie Markell (Karla), Linda Marie Larson (Carolyn), E. Jason Liebrecht (Jerry), Jenny Maguire (Deborah) and Jeremy Schwartz (Danny).

The production has set design by Carol Allison Keating, lighting by Kip Marsh and sound by Nikos Brisco.

Karla was originally produced by Broadaxe Theater in Nashville, TN in 2002
