Jinkx Monsoon to return to 'Chicago' on Broadway
The RuPaul's Drag Race star, who made her Broadway debut with the show in spring 2023, will now play a limited two-week engagement beginning in June.
She's giving the old razzle dazzle — again! Drag queen Jinkx Monsoon will return to Chicago on Broadway this summer for two weeks only, playing the role of Matron "Mama" Morton from June 27 to July 12.
Monsoon made her Broadway debut as Mama in January 2023, making her the first drag queen to play the role on Broadway and earning widespread acclaim from audiences.
"Most of my life, and my entire artistic career — I have known the roles I would play well, but I also knew the industry was not yet giving actors like me the chance to prove it," Monsoon said in a statement. "Over the last decade, I, and queer artists like myself have been chipping away at the antiquated ideas of gender and performance — leading to my life changing run as Mama Morton in Chicago.
"During that one 10-week run, I learned so much about my craft and myself— and I cannot wait to take all of that back into this role and show," she continued. "I am still just a kid, in shock and awe of this wonderful world I get to be a part of."
Monsoon is best known for winning the competition show RuPaul's Drag Race twice, earning her the title "Queen of All Queens." She has also performed around the country in musicals including Hairspray, Rent, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Spring Awakening.
