Irena's Vow: starring Tovah Feldshuh to play at the Walter Kerr Theatre

The Directors Company production of Irena's Vow, the new play by Dan Gordon, starring four-time Tony nominee, Tovah Feldshuh, and directed by Michael Parva, will move to Broadway this season. The drama will open 29 Mar 2009 at the Walter Kerr Theatre, following previews from 10 Mar 2009.

Irena's Vow, which began its life at New Yorks Invictus Theatre Company, recently ended a sold-out world-premiere engagement Off Broadway at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, produced by Power Productions / Stan Raiff in conjunction with The Directors Company and the Polish Cultural Institute.

The show will mark Feldshuhs first Broadway appearance since she starred in 'Goldas Balcony' (Golda Meir: 2003 - Broadways longest-running one-woman show), for which she was nominated for her fourth Tony Award. Other Tony nominations include: 'Lend Me a Tenor' (Maria: 1989), 'Sarav' (Flor: 1979) and 'Yentl' (Yentl: 1975).

The complete cast includes Sandi Carroll, Tracee Chimo, Steven Hauck, Scott Klavan, Peter Reznikoff, Thomas Ryan, Gene Silvers, John Stanisci and Maja Wampuszyc, all of whom are reprising their performances.

Irena's Vow: During the Nazi occupation of Poland, Irena Gut Opdyke, a Polish Catholic, was forced to work as head housekeeper for a very prominent Nazi major. Over a two year period of service, Irena would risk her own life in order to save the lives of twelve Jewish refugees whom she secretly took under her care.

The off-Broadway production opened to mostly favourable reviews: "A powerful, frequently surprising drama." (New York Post) A gripping Holocaust story... Driven by a fiercely-felt performance from Tovah Feldshuh in the title role." (Star-Ledger); "Feldshuh holds the audience captive from her first appearance, delivering a charismatic, courageous performance." (Back Stage); "Because it tells a great story -- and stars a remarkable Tovah Feldshuh as Opdyke -- the production survives its workmanlike script." (Variety).

The design team for Irena's Vow includes Kevin Judge (Scenic Design), David Castaneda (Lighting Design), Astrid Brucker (Costume Design) and Quentin Chiappetta (Sound Design/Composer.)

Irena's Vow will be produced on Broadway by Stan Raiff, Daryl Roth, Debra Black, James L. Nederlander and Terry Allan Kramer.

Ticket information and schedule still to be announced.
