In The Wings, presented by Bonnie Comley and Stellar Productions Int'l, opened at the Promenade Theatre on the 28 Sep 2005, following previews from the 9 Sep 2005.

The show opened to luke-warm to poor notices, Polly Wittenberg said of the comedy "None of this is either original or very funny. Writer Lane should keep his other day jobs." To read all of Polly's review and what the critics said click here

Set in 1978, In The Wings tells the story of Steve (he's Jewish) and Melinda (she's not), two aspiring actors in love with each other and the theatre. They get their big break when they are cast in a new musical, "I Married A Communist", written by their svengali-like acting teacher Bernardo. But when the show moves to Broadway, only Melinda is asked to move with it. Can love stay alive on the Great White Way?

"After three Tony Awards, most people know me as a producer," says Lane, "but once upon a time, I struggled to make a living on the other side of the footlights. The life of an actor in this city was not an easy one, but those were some of the best years of my life. This particular time in my life seemed like an ideal foundation on which to create a romantic, New York comedy like In The Wings."

Directed by Jeremy Dobrish, the comedy features Lisa Datz (Melinda), Josh Prince (Steve Leonards), Marilyn Sokol (Martha Leonards), Brian Henderson (Nicky Sanders), and Peter Scolari (Bernardo). The show features songs written by Michael Garin

The design team for In The Wings is William Barclay (Scenic Design), Mattie Ullrich (Costume Design), Phil Monat (Lighting Design) and Jill B C DuBoff (Sound Design).
