Ibsen/Fosse 2006 at 59e59's Theatre B
Oslo Elsewhere presents Ibsen/Fosse 2006: Rosmersholm by Henrik Ibsen & deathvariations by Jon Fosseat. Both plays run in repertorie at the 59E59's Theater B from 8 Aug - 9 Sep 2006.
Rosmersholm, by Henrik Ibsen and directed by Timothy Douglas, centers on the relationship between reluctant rebel John Rosmer and his driven and secretive 'friend' Rebecca West, as well as the hypocrisy of the powerful, conservative individuals who interfere with their unconventional union. This new translation firmly plants the story into a modern American setting, as it stays true to Ibsen's exploration of the motivation for John's late wife's suicide and the depth of Rebecca's involvement.
Deathvariations, by Jon Fosse and directed by Sarah Cameron Sunde, tells the story of how a mother finds herself through the loss of her child. We discover the daughter may have killed herself; the parents are forced to revisit their past and the way things came to be.
Ibsen/Fosse 2006 runs in repertoire.
