If you are visiting New York to take in a Broadway show, remember that off-Broadway shows are playing as normal.

Why not take the opportunity to see a performance in a smaller venue - what they may lack in special stage effects, etc., is often made up for by the intimacy of the performance space. Off-Broadway venues will be glad to welcome you, are often much cheaper then Broadway, and offer far more diversity in the choice of shows on offer.
