And the winner of the 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album is... Hamilton (released by Atlantic).

Lin-Manuel Miranda's smash hit musical beat the cast recordings of An American in Paris (released by Masterworks Broadway), Fun Home (released by PS Classics), The King and I (released by Universal Music Classics), and Something Rotten! (released by Ghostlight) to win this year's coveted Grammy award last night.

And for the first time since 2010 a Broadway company performed live during the Grammys telecast. The cast of Hamilton performed their opening number "Alexander Hamilton" (via a satelite link to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway) during the CBS telecast.

Although last night marked the 58th Anniversary of the Grammys, Broadway productions have only been showcased during the telecast seven times previously - Godspell (1972), The Magic Show (1975), Sophisticated Ladies (1982), La Cage Aux Folles (1984), Will Rogers Follies (1992), Riverdance and Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk (1997) and finally Green Day's American Idiot (2010).
