Grey Gardens sets Broadway dates
Grey Gardens, the musical which had a sold-out off-Broadway run at Playwright Horizon's ealier this year, has set the dates for its Broadway run at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The musical will open on the 2 Nov 2006, following previews from the 3 Oct.
As previously announced Michael Grief will once again direct, while Christine Ebersole and Mary-Louise Wilson will reprise the roles they played in Playwright's Horizon's productoin of the musical.
Christine Ebersole received a special citation by the New York Critics Circle for her characterisation of socialite Edith Bouvier Beale in act one of the musical, and then as Edith's daughter 'Little Edie' in Act 2. Ms Ebersole also won the Outer Critic's Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Drama League's Distinguised Performance Award and a 2006 Obie award for her performance in the musical.
Grey Gardens: Once among the brightest names in the pre-Camelot social register, the deliciously eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis are now East Hampton�s most notorious recluses, living in a dilapidated 28-room mansion. Facing an uncertain future, Edith Bouvier Beale and her adult daughter, 'Little' Edie, are forced to revisit their storied past and come to terms with it � for better, and for worse.
The musical has a book by Doug Wright, based on the film of the same name, with music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie.
The musical will unite the same creative team: set design by Allen Moyer, costumes by William Ivey, lighting by Peter Kaczorowski and sound by Brian Ronan.
Further casting and the musical's performance schedule to be announced.
