Drama Desk Awards 2006-2007 winners announced

52nd Annual Drama Desk Awards winners were announced on Sun 20 May 2007 at an award ceremony hosted by Kristin Chenoweth at FH LaGuardia Concert Hall at the Lincoln Center.

The Lincoln Center Theatre's production of Tom Stoppard's trilogy The Coast of Utopia, which recently ended its run on Broadway, was the most honored production of the evening, winning a total of seven awards, including Outstanding Play. Spring Awkening won 4 Awards, including Outstanding Musical.

R.C. Sheriff's Journey's End, directed by David Grindley, was awarded Outstanding Revival of a Play, and Sondheim's Company, directed by John Doyle, was awared Outstanding Revival of a Musical.

LoveMusik, which led the way in the nominations - having been nominated in 12 categories - walked away with just two Awards, Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Donna Murphy) and Outstanding Orchestrations.

Frank Langella was awarded Outstanding Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Richard Nixon in Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon, Eve Best was awarded Outstanding Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Josie Hogan in Eugene O'Neil's A Moon for the Misbegotten.

Ra�l Esparza won the Outstanding Actor in a Musical Award for his performance as Bobby in Company. Donna Murphy and Audra McDonald tied for the Outstanding Actress in a Musical Award. Murphy won for her portrayal of Lotte Lenya in LoveMusik, while McDonald won for her performance as Lizzie in the Roundabout Theatre Company�s revival of 110 in the Shade.

Two Broadway shows were not considered for nominations: Deuce, the new play by Terrence McNally, which stars Angela Lansbury and Marian Seldes, which withdraw itself from consideration for the Drama Desk Awards, and Grey Gardens - which was eligible last season for its Off-Broadway run.

The Drama Desk was founded in 1949 to explore key issues in the theater and to bring together critics and writers in an organization to support the ongoing development of theater in New York. The organization began presenting its awards in 1955, and it is the only critics� organization to honor achievement in the theater with competition between Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway productions.
