Dizzia to step in for Parisse in 2ST's The Layover
Second Stage Theatre has announced that Tony nominee Maria Dizzia will step in for Annie Parisse and assume the role of Shellie in the world premiere production of The Layover from 6 September 2016. Ms. Parisse will play her final performance in the role on 4 September, before departing to begin filming for the Netflix series "Friends From College."
Maria Dizzia earned a Tony nomination in 2010 for 'In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play).' Her off-Broadway credits include the 2ST production of 'eurydice,' NYTW's 'Belleville,' MTC's 'Cradle and All,' Playwrights Horizons' 'The Drunken City,' and MCC Theater's 'The Wooden Breeks.' She is also known for her TV role as Polly on Netflix's "Orange is the New Black."
Written by Leslye Headland and directed by Trip Cullman, previews began at 2ST's Tony Kiser Theatre on 9 August 2016, before an official opening on 25 August. The limited engagement is scheduled to play through to 18 September 2016.
The cast currently includes Quincy Dunn-Baker (Kevin/Arno/Bartender), Arica Himmel (Lily), Annie Parisse (Shellie), John Procaccino (Pilot/Fred), Adam Rothenberg (Dex) and Amelia Workman (Flight Attendant/Mya/Andrea).
Synopsis: "Ever wonder who that stranger is sitting next to you? What is their story? What are they hiding? Shellie and Dex dare to answer these questions after their flight is delayed on a snowy Thanksgiving night. What they discover about themselves, and each other, sends both of their lives into upheaval. The Layover asks the question: Can you ever really get to know somebody when you're hiding so much yourself?"
The creative team behind The Layover features scenic design by Mark Wendland, costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, sound design by Fitz Patton, and video design by Jeff Sugg.
