Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to close 3 Sep 2006

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will play its final performance at Broadway's Imperial Theatre on 3 Sep 2006, the musical was booking to 31 Dec 2006.

The show began previews on 31 Jan 2005, and played 36 preview performances. It will have played 666 regular performances since its opening night on 3 Mar 2005.

Based on the 1988 MGM film of the same title, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is set in the glamorous French Riviera where two con men meet and decide that the town isn�t big enough for both of them. They agree to a contest: the first one to swindle $50,000 from a young female heiress wins and the other man must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues bringing out the best and the worst in both men.

With a book by Jeffrey Lane and music and lyrics by David Yazbek (The Full Monty), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell. The musical is based on the 1988 MGM film.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels won the 2005 Drama League Award for Best Musical, it was nominated for 11 Tony's. It was also nominated for 6 Outer Critics Circle awards - of which it won one: Norbert Leo Butz won Outstanding Actor in a Musical. It was also nominated for 10 Drama Desk Awards - of which it won one: again by Norbert Leo Butz for Outstanding Actor in a Musical.

Keith Carradine and Brian d'Arcy James recently took other the lead roles of suave con man Lawrence Jameson and grifter Freddy Benson respectively on 20 Jul 2006, along with Richard Kind who assumed the role of the Chief of Police con man Andre Thibault on the 3 Aug 2006. However, they did not draw in the crowds as the theatre only played to 71% capacity last week and 62% the week before.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels also stars Sherie Rene Scott, (Christine Colgate ), Lucie Arnaz (Muriel Eubanks) and Sara Gettelfinger (Jolene Oakes).

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has set design by David Rockwell, with costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighitng by Kenneth Posner and sound by Acme Sound Partners.
