Cry-Baby: Dwayne Clark to play 'Dupree' from 17 Jun


Dwayne Clark will play 'Dupree' from 17 Jun 2008 in the Tony Award nominated Best Musical Cry-Baby.

Clark assumes the role from original cast member Chester Gregory II who makes his final performance on 15 Jun 2008. Gregory II is leaving the show to play the role of 'Donkey' in the upcoming Broadway show Shrek-: The Musical.

Clark made his Broadway debut in 'Urinetown' (2001), he has also appeared on Broadway in the ensemble of 'Tarzan' (2006) in which he was also the understudy for the role of 'Terk'.

The musical currently stars James Snyder in the title role of Cry-Baby, Harriet Harris as Mrs. Vernon-Williams and Elizabeth Stanley as 'Allison' and also features Chester Gregory II (Dupree), Christopher Hanke (Baldwin), Carly Jibson (Pepper), Alli Mauzey (Lenora) and Richard Poe (Judge Stone).

It's Baltimore in 1954. Everyone likes Ike, nobody likes Communism and Wade 'Cry-Baby' Walker is the baddest boy in town. He's a rebel with a cause � truth, justice and the pursuit of rock 'n' roll � and when he falls for a good girl, his square little suburb rocks around the clock.

Cry-Baby is the second John Waters' film to be adapted for the stage as a musical comedy, the first being the 2003 Tony Award winning Best Musical Hairspray.

Cry-Baby has book by Mark O�Donnell and Thomas Meehan, lyrics and music by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger, and is directed by Mark Brokaw with choreography by Rob Ashford.

The creative team comprises Scott Pask (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), Howell Binkley (lighting) and Peter Hylenski (sound).

The new musical is being produced on Broadway by Margo Lion; Adam Epstein; The Baruch, Viertel, Routh , Frankel Group; James D. Stern/Douglas L. Meyer; Rick Steiner/Frederic H. Mayerson; SEL & GFO; New Line Cinema, in association with Clear Channel Entertainment; A. Gordon/E. McAllister; D. Harris/M. Swinsky; J. & B. Osher.
