Christian Borle to star in 'Some Like It Hot' on Broadway
The musical will begin performances in November.
Broadway likes it hot! The new musical adaptation of Some Like It Hot, the Oscar-nominated 1959 Marilyn Monroe film, has set its Broadway opening and its cast. Some Like It Hot will bring the heat to the Shubert Theatre beginning November 1, ahead of a December 11 opening.
Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, Some Like It Hot follows two musicians, Joe and Jerry, who witness a mob hit and must flee the city. They adopt new identities and hide in plain sight from the gangsters as a traveling swing big band. Tony Award winner Christian Borle and J. Harrison Ghee lead the cast as Joe/Josephine and Jerry/Daphne, respectively.
The cast also includes Adrianna Hicks as Sugar, Kevin Del Aguila as Osgood, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue, Adam Heller as Mulligan, and Mark Lotito as Spats. Additional casting has yet to be announced.
Three-time Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw directs the Some Like It Hot musical, which features a book by Matthew López, the Tony-winning playwright of The Inheritance, and Amber Ruffin. Music is by Marc Shaiman and lyrics are by Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the team behind Hairspray.
The creative team also includes set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Brian Ronan, hair and wig designer Josh Marquette, makeup designer Milagros Medina-Cerdiera, music supervisor Mary-Mitchell Campbell, music director Darryl Archibald, orchestrators Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter, and dance and incidental music arranger Glen Kelly.
