Choir Boy extends for a second and final time

Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere production of Tarell Alvin McCraney's new play Choir Boy has announced a second and final extension. The show has extended its run by one further week and will now play through to 11 Aug 2013.

Choir Boy opened at NY City Center - Stage II on 02 Jul 2013, following previews from 18 Jun 2013, and was originally scheduled to close on 21 Jul 2013.

The play opened to mixed but mostly good reviews: McCraney writes wide instead of deep (newyorktheatreguide.com); Plotting is diffuse (NY Times); Stirring and stylishly told (NY Daily News); Small but mighty coming-of-age play (Variety).

Choir Boy: The Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys is dedicated to the creation of strong, ethical black men. Pharus wants nothing more than to take his rightful place as leader of the school's legendary gospel choir. Can he find his way inside the hallowed halls of this institution if he sings in his own key?

Directed by Trip Cullman, Choir Boy stars Nicholas L. Ashe (Junior Davis), Kyle Beltran (David Heard), Grantham Coleman (Austin Justin 'AJ' James), Chuck Cooper (Headmaster Marrow), Austin Pendleton (Mr. Pendleton), Jeremy Pope (Pharus Jonathan Young) and Wallace Smith (Bobby Marrow).

The creative team includes David Zinn (scenic and costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design) and Fitz Patton (sound design).
