Casting announced for Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes

Casting has now been announced for Matthew Bourne's production of The Red Shoes, which will play the New York City Center's Mainstage from October 26 to November 5, 2017.

The principal cast of The Red Shoes includes Ashley Shaw and Sara Mearns (alternating as Victoria Page), Sam Archer and Jack Jones (alternating as Boris Lermontov), Dominic North and Marcelo Gomes (alternating as Julian Craster), Michela Meazza, Anjali Mehra and Nicole Kabera (alternating as Irina Boronskaja), Liam Mower, Danny Reubens and Will Bozier (alternating as Ivan Boleslawsky) and Glenn Graham and Leon Moran (alternating as Grischa Ljubov).

Please note: The role of Victoria Page will be played by Cordelia Braithwaite on Saturday, November 4 at 2pm.

The rest of the cast includes Steph Billers, Jackson Fisch, Joshua Harriette, Daisy May Kemp, Phil King, Dominic Lamb, Katrina Lyndon, Kate Lyons, Andrew Monaghan, Joe Walkling, Katie Webb, and Seren Williams.

Synopsis: "Based on the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and the 1948 Academy Award-winning movie, The Red Shoes has seduced audiences and inspired generations of dancers with its tale of obsession, possession, and one girl's dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance, but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion."

Matthew Bourne's creative team behind The Red Shoes features scenic and costume design by Lez Brotherston, lighting design by Paule Constable, and sound design by Paul Groothuis. The production uses the music of Bernard Herrmann, with new arrangements by Terry Davies.

Matthew Bourne's production of The Red Shoes held its world premiere in Plymouth in the UK in November 2016 and played a sold-out limited engagement at Sadlers Wells in London over Christmas 2016. The show received rave reviews and went on to win two Olivier Awards at the 2017 ceremony - "Best Entertainment & Family" and "Best Theatre Choreographer" (for Matthew Bourne).

Prior to the limited engagement at New York City Center, The Red Shoes will also play the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, CA (from September 15 to October 1), the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. (from October 10 to October 15), and the Blumenthal Performing Arts in Charlotte, NC (from October 15 to October 22).
