Cameron Monaghan, Elizabeth Gillies, more to star in 'Rope' off Broadway

Newly adapted by Gordon Greenberg and presented by The New Group, the play was the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock's 1948 crime thriller film.

The New Group will present a new adaptation of the 1929 play Rope off Broadway this fall, with performances running from October 13 to December 6. Opening night is November 3.

Rope is a crime thriller about two Princeton grad students who commit the "perfect murder" and then throw a dinner party — with their victim still in a trunk in their apartment.

The 1929 play by Patrick Hamilton was inspired by the real Leopold and Loeb murder case, and it was the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1948 film. The new adaptation is by Gordon Greenberg, and Scott Elliott directs.

The cast of Rope off Broadway includes Corey Fogelmanis (Girl Meets World) as Nate Singer, Elizabeth Gillies (Victorious) as Leila, Jason Butler Harner (Ozark) as Rupert Cadell, Cameron Monaghan (Shameless) as Garrett Stern, Graham Phillips (13 on Broadway) as Richard Raglan, and James Waterston (Dead Poets Society) as Judge Kentley.

The production also has scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Leah Gelpe, intimacy and fight direction by UnkleDave’s Fight-House, and production stage management by Valerie A. Peterson.
