Danish actress Birgitte Hjort Sørensen will make her Broadway debut and take on the role of Madame de Tourvel in the Donmar Warehouse production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, written by Christopher Hampton and directed by the Donmar's Artistic Director Josie Rourke. She joins previously announced Tony winner and Oscar nominee Janet McTeer (La Marquise de Merteuil), Tony winner and Golden Globe nominee Liev Schreiber (Le Vicomte de Valmont) and Tony nominee Mary Beth Peil (Madame de Rosemonde).

Director Josie Rourke released the following statement:

"Birgitte is one of the most magnetic, sensual and intelligent actors I've ever worked with and the idea of introducing her to New York audiences, and to Broadway is tremendously exciting. It's thrilling to have an American, an English and a Danish actor as the central love triangle of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and I am delighted that Birgitte is going to bring her fine sensibility and unique talent to that trio."
Birgitte Hjort Sørensen previously worked with Ms Rourke in London in the 2014 Donmar production of 'Coriolanus,' opposite Tom Hiddleston. She is perhaps best known for her screen roles in "Pitch Perfect 2" and "Vinyl."

Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses will begin previews on 8 October 2016 at Broadway's Booth Theatre. An official opening is scheduled for 30 October, before a limited 15-week engagement through to 22 January 2017.

Synopsis: "In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos' novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalized the world. Two hundred years later, in 1985, Christopher Hampton's stage adaptation became an award-winning sensation in London's West End and on Broadway. Former lovers, La Marquise de Merteuil and Le Vicomte de Valmont compete in games of seduction and revenge. These merciless aristocrats toy with the hearts and reputations of innocents. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the convent-educated Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has other designs. His target is the peerlessly virtuous and happily married Madame de Tourvel."

The creative team behind Les Liaisons Dangereuses features original music by Michael Bruce, scenic & costume design by Tom Scutt, lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Carolyn Downing, movement direction by Arthur Pita and fight direction by Richard Ryan.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses is produced on Broadway by Arielle Tepper Madover.
