Billy Crudup will star in Harry Clarke at Vineyard Theatre

The off-Broadway non-profit Vineyard Theatre has announced that Tony Award winner Billy Crudup will star in the first production of its upcoming 2017-2018 season. Tony nominee Leigh Silverman will direct Mr. Crudup in the world premiere of Harry Clarke, a one-man play written by David Cale, which will begin previews on October 26, 2017, ahead of an official opening on November 12 and a limited engagement through to December 3, 2017.

Billy Crudup won a Tony Award in 2007 for 'The Coast of Utopia' (Parts 1 and 2). He also earned Tony nominations for 'Arcadia' (2011), 'The Pillowman' (2005), and 'The Elephant Man' (2002). Other Broadway credits include 'Waiting For Godot,' 'No Man's Land,' 'The Three Sisters,' and 'Bus Stop.' He previously appeared in the Vineyard Theatre productions of 'The Metal Children' in 2010 and 'America Dreaming' in 1994, as well as the 2001 "Shakespeare in the Park" production of 'Measure for Measure.' His many screen credits include "Watchmen," "Almost Famous," "Big Fish," "Gypsy," "Alien: Covenant," "20th Century Women," "Spotlight," "Eat Pray Love," "Public Enemies," "The Good Shepherd," "Mission: Impossible III," "Waking the Dead," and "Sleepers," among others. He will next be seen as Henry Allen in DC's "Justice League."

Synopsis: "Harry Clarke is the story of a shy midwestern man leading an outrageous double life as the cocky Londoner Harry Clarke. Moving to New York City and presenting himself as an Englishman, he charms his way into a wealthy family's life as the seductive and precocious Harry, whose increasingly risky and dangerous behavior threatens to undo more than his persona."

The creative team behind Harry Clarke features scenic design by Tony nominee Alexander Dodge, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting design by Alan Edwards, and sound design by Bart Fasbender.

Other productions in Vineyard Theatre's 35th Anniversary season include the world premieres of The Amateurs, written by Jordan Harrison and directed by Oliver Butler, which begins performances on February 8, 2018, and The Beast in the Jungle, a new musical by Susan Stroman, David Thompson and John Kander with Stroman additionally serving as both director and choreographer, which is set to begin performances on May 3, 2018, as well as a developmental lab of This Land Was Made by Tori Sampson in July 2018.
