Between Riverside and Crazy returns to off-Broadway
Second Stage Theatre have announced that the Atlantic Theater Company's production of Between Riverside and Crazy by Tony Award nominee Stephen Adly Guirgis, will return to off-Broadway and begin performances at the Tony Kiser Theatre on 16 January 2015, before officially opening on 11 February.
The production's original cast members Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón, Liza Colón-Zayas and Stephen McKinley Henderson will be returning for the second engagement, with further casting to be announced at a later date.
Between Riverside and Crazy is directed by Austin Pendleton and features scenic design by Walt Spangler, costumes by Alexis Forte, lighting by Keith Parham, and sound design and original music by Ryan Rumery.
Synopsis: "City Hall is demanding more than his signature, the Landlord wants him out, the liquor store is closed - and the Church won't leave him alone. For ex-cop and recent widower Walter 'Pops' Washington and his recently paroled son Junior, the struggle to hold on to one of the last great rent stabilized apartments on Riverside Drive collides with old wounds, sketchy new houseguests, and a final ultimatum in this dark comedy. For Pops and Junior, it seems the Old Days are dead and gone - after a lifetime living Between Riverside and Crazy."
The production originally opened on 31 July 2014, following previews from 10 July, at Atlantic Theatre Company's Linda Gross Theater, and concluded its run there on 23 August 2014.
The play opened to positive reviews, and was described as "a wonderful new play" (Newsday), and "a deliciously mounted Atlantic Theater Company production...a dizzying and exciting place to be." (New York Times).
